Professor Kai Tao Wins Best Invited Talk Award at the 10th International Symposium on Sensor Science and 1st International Conference on Artificial Intelligence Sensors

2024-08-04

On August 4, 2024, the 10th International Symposium on Sensor Science and 1st International Conference on Artificial Intelligence Sensors (AIS-I3S 2024) successfully concluded at the National University of Singapore. The conference featured 19 thematic sessions, including those on artificial intelligence sensors and biomedical sensors, attracting nearly 400 experts and scholars from around the world in the fields of sensors and artificial intelligence. Over the four-day event, a total of 292 academic presentations were delivered, comprising 46 keynote talks, 122 invited talks, and 124 oral presentations.

Professor Kai Tao delivered an invited talk titled “Hydrogel Electronic Skin for Human-Machine Interaction System” at the conference. The report detailed his research group's recent progress in developing organic ionic hydrogel sensors based on MEMS fabrication and lithium bromide modulation processes. This sensor system, integrated with multimodal sensing modules and artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms, enables high-precision decoding of electromyography (EMG) and mechanomyography (MMG) signals for movement intention recognition. It facilitates active rehabilitation training guided by human movement intent and allows for three-degree-of-freedom motion control of a single drone and swarm control using hand gestures. This work proposes a novel and straightforward strategy for the design of next-generation multimodal natural human-machine interaction systems, significantly improving interaction efficiency. Related achievements have been published in several high-impact journals (e.g., Advanced Science2022, 9, 2104168; ACS Nano2023, 17, 16160-16173; ACS Nano2024, 18, 15754; Advanced Functional Materials2024, 2316339; Advanced Materials2024, 36(11), 2309868).

The conference presented four categories of awards: Best Invited Talk Award, Best Oral Presentation Award, Best Student Paper Award, and Best Poster Award. Professor Kai Tao was honored with the Best Invited Talk Award. This award was granted to only 10 experts and scholars, among whom 4 were from the Chinese mainland, with Professor Kai Tao being one of the recipients.
